Beware of a New Scam Targeting Attorneys and Clients
A new scam targeting clients and attorneys aims to scam money from clients without their attorneys’ knowledge. Please note that Keating Wagner will never call to ask for money, so if you receive a call claiming to be the firm, ask to speak with your attorney before proceeding.
The scam works by using a “spoof” caller ID program. Clients will receive a phone call and the caller ID will display the attorney’s number. The client is told to pay additional money and is given a toll-free number to call to make a payment.
If you receive a call like the one described above, please hang up and call your attorney to share the details. You may also report the call with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at http://www.ic3.gov.
